Digital Storytelling

Last week I attended a Digital Storytelling Bootcamp for Museums. I was surrounded by some of my very favorite collegues as we were immersed in storymining techniques and digital media creation. It was like being locked in a toy store for three days…wireless, laptops, digital cameras, audio recorders, scanners, light kits, garageband, audacity and photoshop. But what really made the camp rich, was the focus on creating meaningful online experiences.

With experts like Tim Svenonius from SFMOMA and Joe Lambert from Center for Digital Storytelling leading the way, we were each inspired to develop a story that needed to be told from our museums.

Art is…artTunes

It is true. I’m addicted to art. You would think after all the time I’ve spent in the Blanton over the past two weeks, that I would have had enough (at least for a little while). Nope. No way.

The idea that woke me up just now? artTunes: connecting art and music.

Blanton Interactive Map

Sweet Lord! The Austin American Statesman has created an interactive virtual 360 tour of the Blanton Museum Galleries. I am thrilled beyond words! Can’t make it to the Blanton for the 24-hour extremely grand opening? Oooooooo….yes you can! Well, at least virtually! Come on and join me in the Blanton Interactive Map.

My Journey with Icarus

Icarus Sculpture by Charles Umlauf

A personal response to before the fall: a sound journey by Natacha Poggio

A moment of peace in the midst of chaos, I step into the garden and relax into the moment. This garden is familiar to me, I’ve been here many times, but each time reveals a new treasure, a new discovery.

I’m drawn towards the sculpture of Icarus, as though my heart knows the way.

Tag, you’re it!

So, do you like playing tag? I certainly hope you do. Tagging is a wonderful way for you to label the objects and ideas of the world the way you see them. You may already be tagging your photos in Flickr, or your bookmarks in delicious…but I dare you to start tagging art!

Meaningful Screensavers

I’ve been working with one of my favorite designers, Andy Greer, to create a series of screensavers for the Blanton Museum. My initial goals for these screensavers are:

  • expose more of the blanton’s valuable collection
  • make art a part of your every day life
  • open your eyes to news ideas and images
  • inspire you to come hang out in the new museum

So….my plan? Your screensaver changes as the exhibits in the museum change! How cool is that?
