Still Tingling: SXSWi Afterglow

Sigh. Words cannot possibly describe the experience of SXSWi. It is true, this year’s event left me speechless (but smiling all the way to my heart). If you can’t imagine me at a loss for words, just ask Pixeldiva who saw me rendered speechless multiple times.

What is so magical about SX? Well…imagine…a place where there are no barriers to dreams, where ideas flow like a waterfall…drenching you with a creative fire so intense and pure that it feels like nirvana.

Moments of pure bliss for me this year include:

Digital Storytelling Workshop – March 19-21, 2007

Update: Workshop in Austin is sold out.
I wanted to let y’all know about a wonderful 3 day Digital Storytelling Workshop that is being hosted at UT March 19-21st. This is the first ever Center for Digital Storytelling open workshop in Texas! Joe Lambert will lead this experience. Joe is the founder of the Digital Storytelling movement and author of Digital Storytelling-Capturing Lives, Creating Community. I had the good fortune to attend Joe’s sessions within the last year with some folks from the Blanton Museum. Joe’s workshop inspired us to create the Geometry of Hope Interactive Exhibit using the techniques we learned in this workshop + Pachyderm (the open source multimedia authoring tool).

If you have a story to tell…what are you waiting for?

My Godfather

Dear Don,

I know you are in a better place and it would be selfish of me to wish you were still here. But I do hope you understand how much you and Vi mean to me.

When I close my eyes to think of you, I hear your genuine contagious laugh and wish with all my heart that I could hear it one more time.

As a child, one of my most poignant memories was when you took me for a spin in your bright yellow dune buggy.

Struck by Lightning

Have you see the SXSWi logo this year? It looks like a lightning bolt and now I know why! I’ve just returned from the SXSWi Southwestern Connections party at the Beauty Bar. I’m still buzzing from the creative energy that flowed freely tonight.

In SXSWi style, I wandered around the room and introduce myself to people I didn’t know. This is how I connected with a Burner named Sparky.

Walking Through Poetry

My dear friend, Meesh, and I went to Robert Frost’s Farm in Derry, New Hampshire on December 31st. It was midday and a blanket of fresh snow covered the ground. Being there was like walking through poetry. It was so peaceful. I could feel the presence of Robert Frost in those snowy woods.

What Makes a Good Day?

Ever have one of those delightful days…where you seem to be moving with the rhythm of the world? When things you’ve dreamed about really happen? When unexpected gifts lead you to wonder…is this real?

Here are the things that made my day so very, very good:

Remembering the Mayflower

What was it like to step on the Mayflower back in 1620? Such a tiny ship to sail across the huge Atlantic. Would I have been brave enough to step on board and leave the solid ground behind? My relatives were. I’m 12 steps away from those courageous souls who boarded that ship almost 400 years ago.
