Day 0

At this very moment, one of my dearest friends and collegues is receiving a bone marrow transplant at M.D. Anderson in Houston.

It’s Day 0—Tuesday. The nurse, Melissa, just came in and told us that the time for the transplant/transfusion has been set for 10:00 AM Central time. She said they’ll do the pre-medications, Bendadryl and Solumedrol, starting at 9:30 (about 10 minutes from now). We’re ready. I love you all. Thanks so much for all your love and your support and your prayers. More to come! – John Slatin

If you would like to reach out to John and send your love and good wishes to him…head to M.D. Anderson’s Message to a Patient. You enter your message online, an M.D. Anderson volunteer will print it out and then read it out loud to John. Patient Number and Birthday are NOT required.

  1. Thanks Glenda…yeah…I discovered this service on the M.D. Anderson site 7 years ago when a friend was battling Leukemia. John couldn’t be in a better place.

Here is the note I just posted to him:

    John,

I can’t wait to read your next blog post. You are truly amazing. I’m praying for you with every fiber of my being. Livestrong!

    All my love,
    Glenda

    Hi John,

You don’t know me, but I heard about you through your dear friend Glenda Sims.

I just want to wish you all the best with your surgery, and let you know that you are in my prayers.

Have faith, and keep confident that God will take care of you, and that His Will, will be done.

    Keep strong!

    -God Bless,
    Roger (From Jamaica)
