Gifts of Friendship and Love

I’m sitting in John’s hotel room with Anna, Dillon and Sharron…listening to music…and reading letters of love and encouragement out loud. Amazing how gifts of friendship are often handmade creations like M&M brownies, handwritten notes and a face-to-face visit. You wouldn’t believe how powerful a short note of encouragement can be. Anna sitting on the… Continue reading Gifts of Friendship and Love

Of Angels, Hippos and Horses

This morning I went on a surprise adventure where I discovered my father horseback riding at the ROCK. What? My dad, horseback riding? Weekly!?! You’ve got to be kidding! After his brain cancer, surgery, chemo and radiation therapy, I’ve grown accustom to my hero being a brilliant sloth. In fact, I’ve been expecting him to be wheelchair bound. So to see him decked out in his cowboy hat and boots…and riding a horse was a precious gift.

My Journey with Icarus

Icarus Sculpture by Charles Umlauf

A personal response to before the fall: a sound journey by Natacha Poggio

A moment of peace in the midst of chaos, I step into the garden and relax into the moment. This garden is familiar to me, I’ve been here many times, but each time reveals a new treasure, a new discovery.

I’m drawn towards the sculpture of Icarus, as though my heart knows the way.

Rock-N-Roll High School

Ramones, Johnny, Joey, DeeDee, Tommy

I am strongly influenced by my high school days in Houston. I treasure these 20+ year friendships. While I’ve lost touch with some, the internet allowed me to stay in touch with a core group. A friendship philosophy I developed in college still applies today. My philosophy is, if we have ever been friends, real friends, then time and distance are meaningless. I’m your friend forever, with no strings attached. You can walk back in to my life and I’ll be thrilled to hear your voice and we will pick back up right where we left off.

Over the past week I’ve been taking a wonderful stroll down memory lane that was triggered by an extra order of shrimp at dinner last Friday.

Break Through

I’m a tender hearted girl, despite my bravado. And lately, I’ve been letting the world stomp on my heart. When the shattered pieces won’t hold together, I have a number of books on my nightstand to help me heal. One of my favorites is “The Cup of Our Life“. I opened to the chapter on… Continue reading Break Through

Over the River and Through the Woods

If you’ve ever celebrated Thanksgiving in America, you are likely to have heard this song:

Over the river and through the woods,
To grandmother’s house we go.
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh,
Through the white and drifted snow, O!

All my life, I’ve been told that I’m related to the woman who wrote these words.
